Meet the Counselor

Hello, my name is Dennis Graham and I am the new school counselor here at West Side Elementary.  West Side is an outstanding school with excellent leadership and staff.  I have been a school counselor for eight years since retiring from the U.S. Air Force with 27 years of honorable service.  The majority of my Air Force career was as an Education and Training Manager.

I received my bachelors from Corbin University and my Masters in Education, specializing in School Counseling from Liberty University.

My Counseling Duties

As the guidance counselor most of my time is spent with students, through classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling.

Classroom Guidance

I spend a great deal of my time in classrooms providing important lessons on social skills, emotional intelligence, emotion regulation, safety, skills for learning, empathy, respect, and career and college awareness.  At West Side we strongly believe in educating the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally.

Small Group and Individual Counseling

For those children that require more personal assistance, I offer small group counseling and individual counseling for a broad variety of problems and difficulties related to school.  In these small groups we focus on learning, practicing, and improving social skills, enhancing emotional intelligence, and learning how to deal with especially powerful emotions, such as anger, anxiety, fear, and sadness.

Parent and Teacher Consultation

I am also available for brief consultations with parents and teachers on ways and strategies to support their students' and children's academic and social/emotional development.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

I am also the campus 504 coordinator, which means I ensure that our students with disabilities receive the services and assistance they need.  If you have any questions regarding 504 services, you can contact me any time through my email ([email protected]) or phone number (903) 586-5165 extension 3319 during school hours.
